About the Event

Kala Sutra, the Biggest Indian Contemporary Arts Exhibition in Singapore, Opens at The Arts House on 21 September

The event, which brings some of India’s most prominent artists to its opening, showcases the best of modern and contemporary Indian art, in one venue.

Singapore, 6 September 2022 - Kala Sutra presents the best of contemporary Indian art at The Arts House in Singapore by showcasing the artworks of 20 prominent Indian artists in an exhibition that will run from 22 to 25 September, with a private preview on 21 September.

Organized jointly by Singapore events company Phi Events and New Delhi’s Sanchit Art Gallery, and supported by Livspace, India and Southeast Asia’s largest omni-channel home interior and renovation platform. The exhibition will also see four of India’s most famous contemporary artists in attendance at its opening on 21 September, namely Grandmaster Jogen Chowdhury, Sanjay Bhattacharya, Neeraj Goswami and Paresh Maity.

Ritika Khattar, founder of Singapore-based event management company Phi Events, says: “I am very pleased and proud to bring Kala Sutra back to Singapore after a short hiatus due to the pandemic. Kala Sutra has always celebrated the works of the Indian contemporary masters and we are happy to be showcasing their best works right here in Singapore. Art is a good way to connect people and we hope that art lovers here will enjoy this exhibition.”

Grandmaster Jogen Chowdhury, widely acknowledged to be the master of lines, is one of the most important painters of the 21st century, with his works influencing and inspiring many young artists of contemporary India. Fascinated by history in his country, the award-winning artist’s works are also often social and political commentary on society.

Sanjay Bhattacharya, known for his realistic paintings of portraits as well as houses and families on the streets of India, has won several artist awards in India, and has held countless major solo exhibitions across India, in London and New York City. Neeraj Goswami, an award-winning muralist, sculptor and portrait painter, has had his artworks

showcased in solo exhibitions across India, in Paris and New York City.

Paresh Maity is India’s most sought after, versatile artist, working in water colour, mixed media, oil, sculpture and installation. His art, often done in his signature abstract style, is in several prestigious collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, British Museum in London and Rubin Museum of Art in New York.

In addition, the event will showcase some of the top works from masters such as MF Hussain, Satish Gujral and Thota Vaikuntam.

The exhibition, which has been held annually in Singapore since 2013, returns for the first time since 2018. It will present over 80 artworks - mostly paintings and some sculptures - with prices ranging between S$5,000 and S$30,000.
